Some Traditions Need To Stop

Last night was ugly; Sunday night was ugly. However, unlike Sunday night, Monday night should've been better based on this history of these two franchises. Yes, I know San Fran and Denver have strong histories, but I'm talking about head-to-head divisional rivalries type of history. We seem to be subjected to Giants/Cowboys in primetime every year. The least these teams could do is make this game more enjoyable to watch.

It's hard to look back at data and figure out which games in this matchup have been primetime and which haven't, but it's easy to see which games were actually worth anything. 23-16 seems like a good game on paper; it's a one score tight game that goes down to the wire. But like many games of recent past, this was just tough to watch. The halftime score was 6-3, a score that most people would look at and puke. I stayed up watching this game because I had money riding on what happened, but if I didn't I would've taken my ass to bed.

Both teams looked dreadful in the first half. Cooper Rush was trying to run the full Cowboy offense, but his receivers like alleged top-tier WR CeeDee Lamb were dropping key passes, and other receivers were getting mugged in the endzone while the refs turned a blind eye. Oh, and don't even get me started with Kenny Golladay on the other side...

This is the type of play that we had to watch last night. We didn't have a choice in it either! This game was gross, and the final score made it seem a little better than it was. Frankly, we're lucky that Saquon was able to break out for his touchdown run, and that Zeke and Tony Pollard were effective all night long on the other side. There wasn't good defense, it was just bad all around minus the running games. So why are we constantly forced to watch these teams do this?

This isn't the first time the 'boys and Giants have played an absolute dud of a game. The only (non-COVID year) high intensity game in the last 5 years was back in 2018 with Dallas winning 36-35. But that's it. Every other game has been a snooze fest.

So do us a favor, TV execs, put this matchup in the 1 o'clock window where it truly belongs. Nobody cares that these are two huge brands in the league. This game sucks in primetime.
