I'll be honest with you guys. I know that college lacrosse isn't going to be at the top of your mind for most of the year, if not the entire year. So what's going to make it interesting to you? Gambling, of course!
99% of sportsbooks aren't putting up lines for the games, but if you're in a legal state and have access to DraftKings, or if you still go old school and use a bookie, you can get some action on the fastest sport on two feet. Sure, you'll want to sit back and watch some college hoops on Saturday, but meanwhile you can ride these games and watch the money pile up. Here are the lines for some of the bigger games on Saturday:
UNC v. Denver: UNC -575. Denver +375. UNC -4.5, O/U 25.5
Michigan v. Delaware: Mich -185. UDel +150, Mich -1.5, O/U 27.5
Cornell v. Ohio State: Cornell +105. OSU -135, OSU -1.5, O/U 26.5
Towson v. UMBC: Towson -225, UMBC +175, Towson -1.5, O/U 22.5
Virginia v. Johns Hopkins: No ML lines, UVA -5.5, O/U 26.5
Notre Dame v. Maryland: ND +230, UMD -315, UMD -2.5, O/U 27.5
Minus the Towson/UMBC game (it's just a homer play for me), each of these games mean a lot on the national scale. Is UNC a potential title contender? Can Bill Tierney complete a rebuild for the Pios? Is Michigan legit? What about Ohio State and Cornell, where are they on the scales of legitimacy? Virginia/Hopkins speaks for itself in terms of long-time programs going head-to-head, and Notre Dame & Maryland will do a lot to show the postseason potential of both teams. Not every line has value to it, such as UNC ML, but here are the picks I think are most worth making:
UNC/Denver: Under 25.5 and Denver +4.5. Krieg is a monster between the pipes for Carolina and will be the bane of every over bettor this season. Denver may not have the talent they had a few years ago, but any team under Bill Tierney will know what needs to be done to keep games like this within the spread.
Michigan/Udel: Udel ML, Udel +1.5. I don't know enough about these teams to bet the O/U, but what I do know is that Michigan's pathetic schedule has given them a boost in the national eye that they don't quite deserve yet. This is the Wolverine's first test of the season and I believe they're going to receive a failing grade.
Cornell v. Ohio State: OSU -1.5, O 26.5. This one is simple, even though the Ivy League has shaken off the rust of two years on the sidelines, Ohio State has been a dominating force so far this season putting up 20 against UNC and 17 against Harvard. Road games don't seem to phase the Buckeyes and I think Saturday continues that trend.
Towson v. UMBC. Go Tigahs
UVA v. JHU: UVA -5.5, Over 26.5. Look until somebody shows that they can dethrone the Cavs I'm not going to pick against them, especially with Connor Shellenberger being a one-man apocalypse for opposing defenses. Virginia is going to keep rolling until March 19th when they have a huge matchup with Maryland (currently #1 & #2 in the country)
ND v. UMD: UMD -2.5, Under Under 27.5 Death, taxes, and John Tillman never having to rebuild. It doesn't seem to matter how much talent the Terps lose, either to graduation or the transfer portal, they just keep on chugging along. Notre Dame may have started a comeback against Georgetown, but don't let the final score of that game fool you, it was a full blown shitpumping by a team that isn't on the same level as their College Park rivals.
Happy hunting this weekend, let's cash some tickets!
