What Happened in College Basketball Yesterday?

Well, last night was interesting in the college basketball world. There were a few notable upsets, and one near upset that has set the landscape for another up and down season all around.

To start, Oregon got absolutely boat raced by BYU, 81-49. The game was never in doubt with the cougars taking a 19 point lead into the half. I don't think anyone in their right mind would've seen this result coming. An upset, sure, but an upset of this kind? No chance in hell. The Ducks were one of the top teams in the Pac-12 season predictions. I don't see how anyone could've predicted them getting blown out when they only had to travel a couple hours up the road to Portland. Personally, I'm just always shocked that bunch of Mormons know how to play basketball that well.

The next upset took place in Ann Arbor where Seton Hall knocked off #4 Michigan. The Wolverines have title aspirations this year and the Pirates were viewed as an upper middle-tier team in the Big East. The Big East isn't a bad conference, but it's not considered to be on the same level as the Big Ten. This game was a lot closer than the Oregon game, but this still goes a long way for those who want to view Seton Hall as a dark horse in the post season.

The other game that surprised me was North Carolina and College of Charleston. The Tar Heels ended up winning this game but were down by 6 at half. Charleston has been a strong team in the CAA the last several years, but that's a 1-bid conference that typically lands as a 15 or 16 seed in the NCAA tournament. Needless to say, nobody would've expected almighty Carolina to be that close with College of Charleston, even if it is Hubert Davis' first season.

Should be a fun year as long as upsets like these keep happening!
