Maryland was upset by George Mason last night 71-66 last night, and Mark Turgeon proved, yet again, that he is not the leader this team needs during his postgame interview with Chris Knocke. He put the blame squarely on the refs when he made a comment about "none of the calls really going our way tonight" as well as his own student fan base by bitching that there weren't enough fans in the stands. As if that's not bad enough, he even admitted that he couldn't figure out how to make an in-game adjustment to solve a problem that Mason was causing for them defensively.
This man is the absolute worst. He sucks at taking accountability, doesn't make the appropriate adjustments and when his team doesn't perform, it's his players fault and not his.
If you're going to complain about the refs, go home and bitch about it to your wife. Don't do it in front of the media because that gives your players the ability to avoid accountability for their own play. Go home, pitch your fit to her, get it out of your system and come to practice the next day with that out of your mind so you can put the pressure on your players to be better so they don't even end up in that situation to begin with.
Also, if you want to do something about the number of fans in the stands, don't lost to George fucking Mason. Why would fans want to come watch a team that consistently underwhelms, get upset by a team that shouldn't be in the same gym as you. The talent is there, whether they put it together or not is on you as a coach. Fans will come to see a winner, it's that simple. And if that's not enough, go be more proactive on campus to promote students coming to the games, but don't give me this garbage about how "it would be really nice if fans would understand these are big games against good teams." It's not our fault you didn't win the game, don't act like it is.
As for the in-game adjustments... he literally admitted he's not a good coach because he couldn't figure it out. What more do I need to say. He did it to himself.
It's #fireturgeon season all day, every day.
