Cam Newton is back in Charlotte as the free agent QB returns to where his career began with the Panthers. I, for one, am stoked for this. Newton's first time around ended pretty abruptly, and without much fanfare. I feel like Cam has come a long way from his days as a rookie, or even back to his days at Florida where he made what many could chalk up as a dumb mistake made by a college student.
Think about it though. Newton was as close to a model employee as you could ask for during his time in New England. For someone who had a past of flamboyance, both with his outfits and demeanor, he reigned a lot of it in and focused on the job at hand. Newton knew his career was on the way down, and needed to step up in order to give his NFL life a bit of a resurrection. Honestly, if it weren't for a bout of COVID, he would have had a really good season with the Patriots.
Newton did have some issues with getting the vaccine, or at least being upfront about it, but he did it. If Aaron Rodgers is any indication, the fact that Newton decided to roll up his sleeve and get the jab, that says a lot. He deserves this shot and I hope he can help the Panthers have a resurrection of their own.
Besides, he can't be any worse than Sam Darnold has been.
