Jon Gruden Needs to be Fired Right Now

Okay, one of the main rules of life is never talk about another man's job, I get that. However, what Jon Gruden is doing with the Las Vegas Raiders is just awful.

I'm sitting here, watching Monday Night Football, Ravens at the Raiders. I'm expecting to see some of the normal highlights, Lamer Jackson putting defenders in a spin cycle, a stout Ravens defense, Derek Carr's love of check down passes. What I wasn't certain about was how Baltimore would be able to handle losing literally every running back on their training camp roster prior to this game, and if they could put together some good offense against Vegas.

I admit, I had high hopes for them despite all their injuries, and a rebuilt offensive line primarily due to Vegas' defense being less than stellar the past few seasons. Much to my surprise, the Raiders defense has been pretty damn good so far. They've made a ton of stops, particularly in spots that they've been known to fall flat in before. They've held Jackson and the Ravens to only 17 points through 3 quarters, which is pretty unusual for the team that had the worst points against average in the NFL last year. So, you would think Vegas could be winning, right?

WRONG! Somehow Gruden, along with GM Mike Mayock, who should not be absolved from responsibility either, has put an offensive unit together that just can't get anything done. It seems as if every other play is a throw to Darren Waller, which isn't a bad idea, if it wasn't so obvious. Not to mention the one time Waller was butt naked open in the seam, Derek Carr flat out missed him in favor of a check down. Gruden also thought it was a good idea to go for it on 4th down, when in clear field goal position, down 17-10, and instead of getting points on the board, Vegas basically took a trip to see Willy Wonka.

Even if Vegas wins this game, Gruden shouldn't be happy, and his seat should be getting hotter than ever before. I don't want to call for another man to get fired... but the NFL has passed Gruden by, it's time to let him go.
