I'm not really sure how I feel about this. I guess my main question is, "why?" Not so much for the people at the NBA or the people on the broadcast, but why would Richard Jefferson want to be a ref? It's cool of him to offer or sign up or whatever he did to get into this position, I just don't understand any type of desire to be a referee; I'm even more surprised that he had fun doing it.
Being a ref sucks. It's the most thankless position in sports because no matter what you do you're going to piss off a lot of people. I've reffed small events before and can say from experience that it doesn't matter if it's 1 or 1,000 people arguing with it, it's not what I would describe as fun. Credit to Jefferson for making the most of out the opportunity/situation. You won't find anyone like me volunteering to do that anytime soon.
