The NBA is the best soap opera going on TV. It seems like every other day something totally unnecessary, yet highly entertaining goes down. It will keep you on your toes and keep your attention when you would have stopped paying attention to anything else.
I'm really not a huge fan of the actual on court product the league puts out, but trying to ignore the entertainment factor of the league would be a big miss on my part. However, I will say certain topics are more exhausting than entertaining.
Insert Ben Simmons and Kyrie Irving. Both have been absolutely infuriating since they've gained notoriety in the league.
Simmons has been a constant disappointment because his mentality doesn't match his talent. He's underperformed and gotten to a point where he's afraid to bother shooting the ball or even going for a dunk. For some reason he thinks he can just play as a non scoring point guard who is strong defensively and be worthy of max money and to be the center of a franchise.
On the other side, Irving is almost the exact opposite. He's all about getting buckets, doesn't play any defense, but where he gets irritating is his constant Third Eye, Illuminati type of talk where he spouts off ridiculous takes like the world being flat. This man is wildly talented but will just take off on his team, be caught at an event with way more people in attendance than there should be in the middle of a pandemic, and then tell the media of New York to respect his privacy.
Both players are submarining their franchises and they couldn't care less. The only thing that seems to separate them is that Irving is capable of being friends with his costar in Kevin Durant (James Harden is TBD) while Simmons acts like a petulant child about his costar Joel Embiid.
Both players are absolute scumbags but, unfortunately, they'll remain a topic of public interest because they're so ridiculous.
I can't tell who the bigger scumbag of the two are. Can you? Can anyone?
