So I'll be the first to admit that I'm running out of steam on these divisional previews. I only know so much about each team, particularly on the defensive side of the ball, and I'm finding myself yearning for more fun topics rather than things more serious. For the West divisions I won't be diving in too deep, but rather giving a quick rundown of how I think each team will end up.
AFC WEST:
Denver: Drew Locke and Teddy Bridgewater don't inspire me at QB, Vic Fangio is a great defensive coordinator, but has yet to prove he has head coaching ability. This roster is good, real good, compared to others in the league, but without a steady QB or an extremely good running game to mask the deficiencies, the Broncos just aren't going to go very far.
Result: Jostling with Las Vegas for 3rd in the division
Kansas City: Patrick Mahomes and company run it back again, and it feels like their destined for another division crown. How in-depth can I really get on this team other than saying that the offensive line issues appear to be fixed, and they'll need to secure a quality replacement with Sammy Watkins departure. The defense won't be overly great, but they really don't need it to as they've shown over the past couple years.
Result: Ho-hum another division crown. Hopefully LAC can make them sweat some more than normal.
Las Vegas: Why is Jon Gruden still the Raiders Head Coach? And why is Mike Mayock still their GM? The pair have done an awful job of returning the silver and black to relevancy. Their offseason moves, including their draft picks, make absolutely no sense, and project another year of mediocrity for this once proud franchise. Mark Davis and his terrible haircut need to accept this experiment as a loss and move on from it sooner rather than later.
Result: Starting out hot and falling off once the middle of the season rolls around per usual.
Los Angeles Chargers: This is the team I'm probably most excited to watch this year, despite not going too in-depth with a preview. Justin Herbert should continue his growth, making him even more lethal than he was last year. I have a ton of hope that Herbert can turn into the monster that he showed he could be so this division can have years worth of Mahomes-Herbert clashes that will make Manning-Brady look like childs play in comparison. Also, everybody please hope and pray the Derwin James can stay healthy on the defensive side of the ball. The D is immeasurably better with him and fall off a cliff without him.
Result: Wild Card, but maybe make things interesting against the Ciefs.
NFC WEST:
All teams: Ok here is my preview: I have no idea what the hell is going to happen in this division because all four teams could be so freaking good. I'm assuming majority health for all rosters (you can do it San Fran, I know you can), leading to what should be the whackiest division because nobody can get a consistent pulse on who the top dog is. Even the Rams, who look to be in trouble after Cam Akers went down for the season, could win the division and I wouldn't blink. So, I hate to say it, but my preview and prediction is that I'm at a total loss.............
