The NBA Needs to Change It's Court Set-Up

Ok, hear me out. The NBA has a problem and it's not something many people would think about. The league desperately needs to change their courts. No, I'm not talking about the gazillion designs they trot out to match their franchise's absurd amount of jersey combinations.

The NBA desperately needs to change the dimensions of their courts and I can prove it.

Alright so you think I'm totally crazy right? The NBA has had the same sized court since like, ever. So why would they change it? It's simple, really. The players in the league are just too big, strong, fast, athletic, and then some.

The human population of the world is steadily evolving it's physical features over the course of time. As a whole, humans used to be much shorter, stockier, and less fluid as beings. We had the athleticism we needed to be hunters and gatherers, but as basketball players? Well that was going to take some time for us to really turn into our optimum form. We're still evolving, and the world around us should too. This includes basketball courts that are much too small.

Think about this. Two of the top three players in the NBA, LeBron James and Kevin Durant, barely need to jump a foot off the ground (if that) in order to dunk a basketball. Arguably the other top player, Steph Curry, drops three point jumpers into the net as if he were standing right next to it. It's all gotten too easy.

With the ease at which these players can execute their craft, it takes away from the special feeling it can give fans. The dunk contest is boring, the three point contest has picked up in excitement because of how popular that shot is, but it's going to quickly go the way of the dunk if this continues. Especially with Curry and Damian Lillard consistently hitting shots around mid court just for funsies.

So here's what I'm proposing: raise the hoop by a half foot to 10.5 feet. widen and lengthen the court by five feet, and push the three point arc accordingly. The most important piece of this is the corner three. There's only so far the line can be pushed back right now, making it that much easier for players to hit this shot on a consistent basis. Let's make the game more difficult, that way the success the players have mean that much more, and have an even greater impact!

So why is this just an NBA problem? What about the NFL? Their fields are 120 yards long if you include the endzones. That alone counters the human evolution and acts as an equalizer. The MLB has toyed with the distance the mound is to home plate throughout the years, and may do it again soon. They're already actively considering these type of changes which puts them a step ahead of the NBA. And don't even try and use the NHL and the fact that their rinks are roughly the same size as an NBA court. They play on ice skates, the ultimate equalizer.

Tell me I'm wrong, I dare you.
